All Breed Gun Dog Training
The
Whitewater Training gun dog program is focused on producing a quality
hunting companion whether it is a pointer, retriever, or a flushing dog.
Whitewater Kennel also trains dogs for competition to include field trials,
a hunt test, or tournament hunting.
Although trainers differ on many issues, all are in agreement that the two most important factors for producing a quality gun dog are:
- Access to proper training grounds.
- The number and quality of birds.
Whitewater's hunting grounds are superior to any in the country. We take pride in our facility and work hard to keep it in top shape. We also raise our own birds to make certain that they are fed properly and can develop fully.
Train your Retriever for Upland Game Hunting Many of you have a retriever that is a first-class waterfowl hunter but is so-so in the field hunting upland game. I can also make your retriever a first-class upland game hunter. Bring your retriever out to Whitewater and lets begin to make him or her a top-notch upland dog.
Yes, this could include pointing as a few retrievers are natural pointers and some just need a little coaxing and training to point.
How it Works - Boarding and Training
Our
basic gun dog program is generally a 2-3 month program. In this time frame
your dog will be introduced to birds, we will work on retrieving skills,
and introduction to the gun. Once we have these basics done we then take
your dog out in the field to work on hunting skills and to shoot birds over
your dog.
Prior to taking your dog home, we spent time with you and your dog in the field. We put out birds and take you and your dog for a hunt. This helps you to get a better understanding of your dogs training.
How it Works - Individual Lessons
This is my prefer method of training for a number of reasons. The most important is that I can work with both you and your dog simultaneously. You and your gun dog are partners so learning together produces long-lasting results. Another reason is that we all need some time between 'learning activities' to digest the lesson and to practice the newly learned skills.
These lessons can take place over a few weeks, a few months, or even years. Many of my clients (the owner with their gun dog) consider these individual lessons as on ongoing activity. So they are always welcome to come back for more advanced work or refresher training.
How it Works - Training Clinics
Training clinics are a cost effective way to train your bird dog. Join other dog owners in the field and enjoy the group dynamics. Each session concentrates on specific skills that will increase your hunting enjoyment.
The clinics work best if you come for an individual lesson first so I can evaluate your dog. Then together we can develop a training program.
The clinics are usually held on weekends and last 3-4 hours. Call (503) 580-8672 to join one of Rob's training clinic.
